Tips For You If You Wear A Retainer Or Invisalign
Congratulations are in order if you’re experiencing the wonderful benefits of Invisalign or braces. Your straight teeth, beautiful smile and healthy mouth will all thank you for making the wise investment of making your teeth straight.
Braces and Invisalign have a lot in common. Both methods are used when helping to align your teeth. Braces are the more traditional method. They are permanently affixed to your teeth by using wires and metal brackets. A typical person will wear their braces for about two years to achieve the benefits they desire. Invisalign is also used to help straighten your teeth. However, with Invisalign, clear aligner trays are taken in and out of your mouth while cleaning and eating. They also are replaced every once in awhile to help the process of straightening.
After braces, you will need to wear a retainer of some sort. Typically they are clear in nature. They are very similar to the Invisalign aligner trays, however the retainer is being used to hold your teeth in place after your braces are removed.
One common problem related to the retainers and the Invisalign aligner tray is that they can be misplaced due to the practically invisible appearance. Here are a few tips for helping you or your child.
- Do not ever wrap your retainer or tray in a paper towel or napkin while eating. The chances of it being tossed in the trash along with your other food are very high. Dumpster diving is not a preferred activity.
- Try to remember to “set it so you won’t forget it!” Form habits of where you place your retainer or tray every time you clean your teeth or eat a meal.
- Carry your plastic carrying case with you. Place the retainer or tray in it each time you remove it. Make sure your name and phone number is on the container in case it is ever misplaced.
